Still Using Insulation Boards?
There’s Another Way.
Traditional insulation boards have been used in floor construction for decades. For main contractors, bulky deliveries take up valuable storage space. Materials are moved through buildings, boards are measured and cut, and insulation offcuts are removed from site.
There is another way.
Instead of moving insulation through the building, we pump it directly to where it is needed. energystore Thermal Lightweight Aggregate (TLA®) offers a smarter alternative to traditional rigid insulation boards.
What is TLA® insulation?
TLA® is a lightweight, pourable insulation solution that is mixed on site and pumped directly to the installation area.
ATS uses specialist TransMix trucks to mix the material on site before pumping it through a hose. Once poured to the required depth, it creates a continuous insulation layer across the substrate.
For main contractors, this can significantly simplify one of the most logistically demanding stages of the floor build-up.

Why choose pumped insulation instead of insulation boards?
With traditional insulation boards, large quantities of material may need to be delivered, unloaded, stored and distributed around the building before installation can even begin. Each board then needs to be positioned and, where necessary, measured and cut to fit the substrate and accommodate services.
TLA® changes that process.
Because the material is pumped directly into position, it can offer several practical advantages:
- Simpler site logistics – material can be pumped directly to the installation area, including across multiple floors.
- Faster installation – large areas can be installed efficiently, helping to keep construction programmes moving.
- No cutting or fitting insulation boards – removing a time-consuming stage of traditional installation.
- Handles uneven substrates – TLA® can accommodate slab camber and variations in level.
- Encapsulates pipes and services – the material flows around pipework and into difficult-to-reach areas.
- Ideal for restricted-access projects – particularly useful on city-centre sites and projects where storage or access is limited.
- No insulation board offcuts – reducing waste generated through cutting and fitting.
Thermal and fire performance built in
Depending on the TLA® grade specified, thermal conductivity values of 0.10 W/mK or less can be achieved, providing thermal performance as part of the poured floor build-up.
TLA® also offers A2-s1,d0 Reaction to Fire classification, providing a non-combustible alternative for floor and roof insulation.
This combination of thermal performance, fire performance and installation efficiency makes TLA® worth considering much earlier in the specification and construction process.
More than just floor insulation
TLA® isn’t limited to straightforward floor applications.
It can be used in applications including floors, roofs and balconies, with the poured system particularly useful where access, weight, levels and falls can present challenges.
For complex refurbishment projects, it can also provide an effective way of building up significant depths without introducing large volumes of rigid insulation boards into the building.
One contractor for the complete floor build-up
There is another advantage for main contractors working with ATS.
We can deliver TLA® insulation, underfloor heating and pumped screed as one complete floor build-up.
Bringing these elements together under one specialist contractor reduces the need to coordinate multiple trades, contracts and handovers. It can simplify procurement and communication while allowing each stage of the floor construction to be planned around the next.
One specialist contractor. One coordinated floor build-up. Fewer interfaces to manage.
